'The Secret Pool'
As the glow from an as yet unrisen sun bleeds it's presence into a black sky, a good man silently sits amongst us. Together we eat a meal; of warm soft oats with honey and seeds in the silence of dawn. A mist from the warmth of the night earth lifts itself upward around us ... The priest nods, and we stand. He leads us, we becoming single file toward the silence of the forest. We walk with stealth.  Our breath becomes one with the mist as we make our way toward a sun now stretching itself above the horizon.. and the first birdsong, tentatively,  begins.. and builds into a celebratory conversation concerning the tales of the night and the hopes for the day.  And after a while, with a warming of the sun, we reach the edge of the forest toward a lake that few know. Toward a simple bridge that crosses the still water to a small, but perfect circle of an island where there awaits a gathering of druids. The good man chosen, with head shaven continues across the bridge whilst we stop and begin to line the edge of this lake. He joins the druids. All is silent. The high priest leaves our ranks and walks singularly across the bridge to join the circle of robes gathered. They softly sing, words we do not know.   The man chosen drops his simple garments to stand naked against the cold of the morning as the dissipating mist thins and lifts around us .. he walks into the water. In the water he is close enough to the edge that the Priest drops a rope around his neck upon his shoulders ... Â
The time has come for the chosen to enter the Middle Ground, that place our Gods have chosen. Â
The song, and prayers through the night have brought us to this moment
